What Gas Work Do We Do?

Gas jobs fall into two groups: new connections, and faults in what is already there.

  • New cooktops, ovens, space heaters and pool heaters
  • Fixed lines to outdoor BBQs and patio heaters
  • Gas storage and continuous-flow hot water connections
  • Leak tracing with gas detectors, and repairs to the faulty joint
  • Pressure tests on existing pipework, and safe disconnection when an appliance comes out

Which Jobs Need a Gas Licence?

NSW law keeps gas lines and gas appliances in the hands of licence holders. That covers:

  • Moving a cooktop or extending a line
  • Reconnecting a heater that has been shifted
  • Fitting a regulator or an isolation valve

If gas passes through it, it needs a licence, and the detectors and test gear come with the licence holder.

How Does a Gas Job Run?

  1. 01

    Describe the job

On the phone, tell us what is being connected or what you have noticed.

  2. 02

    Test the line

Existing pipework is pressure-tested before anything new is added, and a leak search starts with the gas detector.

  3. 03

    Do the work

Joints are made, the appliance goes on, and the whole run is tested once more.

  4. 04

    Hand it over

The appliance is lit and checked in front of you.

What Goes Into a Gas Quote?

"We had an urgent gas problem that required immediate attention at our home…on a Friday afternoon. … Identified the issue, fixed and tested" Lee

On gas work that matters, because an old joint behind a wall can turn a small connection into a bigger one, and you should know that before it starts. Three things set the number:

  • The condition of the existing pipework and whether it holds a pressure test
  • The length of any new line, and what it passes through or under
  • The appliance itself, with its fittings and regulator

Gas Lines, Old and New

Old homes, old lines

Pre-1940 cottages and the mid-century homes in weatherboard or brick veneer can carry gas lines that are decades old, so those get a pressure check ahead of any new connection.

New homes, new stages

Wyndham Ridge keeps growing as new stages open, and homes there come with modern pipe for cooktop, heater and BBQ connections.

Cold winters

Upper-valley winters bring hard frosts, so a gas heater that has sat idle all summer is worth checking before the cold sets in.

When We're Not the Right Call

A leak at the meter itself, or out toward the street, belongs to the gas distributor, so their emergency number takes that call. An ignition or fan fault in an appliance's electrics goes to an electrician or the maker's service agent.

Gas Fitting Questions

Can a gas cooktop go into an older Greta cottage?

Yes. The pipe feeding it is pressure-tested first, since some older homes run supply pipe that has aged or narrowed. If a length needs replacing before the cooktop connects, that is priced in the same quote.

What are the signs of a gas leak?

A rotten-egg smell, a hissing sound near a pipe or appliance, or burner flames that burn yellow instead of blue. Get everyone outside, avoid light switches and naked flames, and phone the distributor's emergency number once you are clear of the house.

Can a gas point be run out to my BBQ area?

Yes. A new line to an outdoor BBQ or patio heater is fixed pipework, laid and tested by a licensed fitter before handover. Its route and fittings appear on the quote.

Is a gas smell at night an emergency?

Yes. Leave the house and ring the gas distributor first, then ring us, Available 24/7, for the repair inside your property. Work after hours has its own charge, stated before anyone sets out.
