Tree root removal in Greta cuts root masses out of sewer and stormwater pipes and finds the joint they came in through. A plumber in Greta uses an electric eel or jetter, films the line before and after, and prices any repair up front. Ring (02) 4063 3475 to book.

Roots are one of the causes our blocked drains service deals with.

How Do Roots Get Into a Drain?

Roots do not break sound pipe. They follow moisture into pipe that is already damaged:

  • A cracked or shifted clay joint leaks a trace of water, and a fine root grows through the gap
  • A sagged length holds water and silt, which feeds the root once it is inside
  • The root thickens into a mat that catches paper and waste until the line stops

The warning sign. A drain that clears and then chokes again in the same place points to roots at a damaged joint.

Our Root Removal Method

  1. 01

    Film first

The camera finds the root mass, the joint it entered through and the state of the pipe.

  2. 02

    Cut it out

The electric eel's cutting head goes through the mass, and the jetter flushes the pieces.

  3. 03

    Film again

A second pass shows the wall is clear and whether the joint needs work.

  4. 04

    Price the joint

If the entry point is cracked, sealing it is quoted separately.

The sealing options are on pipe relining, and a full camera survey is covered under CCTV drain inspection.

What Moves the Price of Root Removal?

Root jobs vary with:

  • How far along the line the mass sits and how dense it is
  • Clay or PVC, which sets how hard the cutter and jetter can work
  • Whether filming is needed before and after, which it is for any repeat choke
  • Whether the entry joint needs a repair, priced separately so you can see both figures

Old Trees and Old Clay Pipe

Long-established gardens

Pre-1940 cottages sit in gardens that have had generations to mature, and trees that old spread their roots wide in search of water.

Clay joints that open

The sewers under those cottages are earthenware, and the reactive soil around them has worked the joints loose. Each opening gives a root a way in.

Roots and repeat blockages

In the older streets, root balls lodged in the sewer are behind blockages that come back, so the line is filmed before and after the clear as part of the job.

What Customers Say

Woke up Friday to find my two kitchen sinks backed up. … Possibly tree roots from backyard neighbours.

When We're Not the Right Call

Roots in the shared sewer main are Hunter Water's to remove, and they take the report for that pipe. The trees themselves sit outside our trade, so an arborist is the person to ask about pruning or removing one.

Tree Root Questions

Why do roots keep invading my Greta drains?

Roots grow toward moisture, and a cracked clay joint lets a little water seep into the soil. A fine root finds that seep, enters, and thickens into a mat. Until the joint is sealed, the same spot can choke again.

Will cutting the roots out fix the drain for good?

Only if the pipe is sound. When the camera shows the entry joint is cracked, roots can grow back through it, and sealing or replacing that section is the lasting fix. You see the footage before choosing.

Do you need to dig to get roots out?

Not to cut them out. The eel's cutting head or the jetter works through an existing opening, and digging is only priced if a length has collapsed around the roots.

Can you clear roots from long rural drain lines?

Yes. Acreage homes toward Branxton and Rothbury get the same eel, jetter and camera, however far the line runs. Mention its rough length when you ring so the gear suits it.
