Stormwater Drains Greta

Stormwater drains in Greta take rain from your roof, downpipes and yard pits out to the street or another legal outlet, and when they block, water backs up into the yard. A plumber in Greta clears them with a jetter, films the line and quotes the job at a fixed price first.

Why Do Stormwater Lines Block?

Silt and leaves

Everything washed off the roof and yard ends up in the pipe, and it settles wherever the fall flattens out.

Roots at the joints

Older clay stormwater pipe has the same weak joints as a clay sewer, and roots grow in through them.

Sags and undersized pipe

A length that has dropped, or a pipe laid for a smaller roof, holds water instead of moving it on. Clearing alone will not fix that.

How Do We Clear a Stormwater Line?

  1. 01

    Find the hold-up

Pits and grates are lifted to see which section is holding water.

  2. 02

    Jet it clear

The jetter scours silt and debris out toward the outlet, with no chemicals.

  3. 03

    Film the pipe

A camera pass checks for roots, cracks or sags that would bring the problem back.

  4. 04

    Show and quote

You see the footage, and any repair is priced before it starts.

Roots found in the line lead to tree root removal, and a cracked length can be sealed by pipe relining.

What Sets the Price of a Stormwater Job?

For stormwater, the figure depends on:

  • The length from the downpipes to the outlet
  • Clay or PVC, which decides how hard the pipe can be jetted
  • Whether a camera is needed to find a sag or a root entry
  • Access past retaining walls, narrow side paths or across a paddock

Storms, Slopes and the Creek Flats

Fast rain, sloping ground

Average rainfall here is 743 millimetres a year, and summer storms move through quickly. On a sloping block, water races to the lowest pit and dumps whatever it carries there.

Old lines meet new runoff

The older streets climb away from the Anvil Creek flats and were drained with clay pipe laid for the pre-1940 cottages. Runoff now comes down from the Wyndham Ridge estate as well, onto pipes sized for a much smaller town, and the older line gives first.

Clay underfoot

Reactive clay around those pipes moves between wet and dry seasons, and a joint that shifts is where silt and roots start collecting.

What Customers Say

[The team] have done an outstanding job at my mother's rental property. The area they worked on was particularly challenging, as it retained water and had become extremely muddy and boggy… The transformation has been remarkable.

When We're Not the Right Call

A ceiling that drips during a storm is a roofer's job, and gutters spilling over because of leaf build-up are better solved with gutter guards. Past your boundary, the stormwater pipes belong to council.

Stormwater Questions

Why does my Greta yard flood in a storm?

Storms off the ranges drop a lot of rain quickly, and a yard line narrowed by silt or roots cannot carry it away. Once the pipe is cleared and filmed, you know whether it will cope with the next downpour or needs a repair.

Is it safe to jet old clay stormwater pipe?

Yes, at the right pressure. Earthenware lines under the older streets are jetted gently, then filmed so you can see their condition. Newer PVC lines on the estate can take more pressure without harm.

Do you clear stormwater lines on acreage blocks?

Yes. Blocks toward Branxton and Rothbury with long lines out to a dam or table drain get the same jetter and camera. Give us the rough distance when you call, so the longer hose reel is loaded.

Who looks after the pit at the kerb?

Council looks after the kerb inlet and the street pipe, so report a blockage there to the City of Cessnock. The pipes on your side, from each downpipe to the boundary, are ours to clear.
